I tend to hate all things Stephen King related and The Mist was right up there on that list of movies I refused to watch. But after reading a brief review of the movie and hearing the monsters where rather "Lovecraftian", I had to check it out.
I am so glad I did, The Mist rocked. Absolutely creepy as fuck and captivating, I was throughly engaged throughout its nearly 2 hour run time.
The performances did leave little to be desired, especially Marcia Gay Harden as an over the top bible thumper, thankfully she got hers. Thanks Ollie. Thomas Jane was pretty good too, though sometimes he completely chewed the scenery so hard it made me laugh.
I like how alot of it was left up to the viewer to decided what exactly happened and/or happens.
I hear on the 2-Disc DVD set, Frank Darabont included a version of the film in black and white, that would make this movie insanely creepy. I think I will have to buy it.
The Mist gets a rocking 4/5 stars.
