Shaolin Soccer Review

I remember buying this on a totally whim about 5 years ago, it sounded odd and funny, not to mention it was dirt cheap for a HK movie.

This is one of the movies that in every way should be absolutely horrible and unwatchable (least if it was made in America) but Stephen Chow manages to write, direct and act the hell out of this thing and turn it into one the must see movies I have ever watch.

The CGI and practical effects are spot on and at no time override each other and take you out of the movie, you get absolutely engaged by everything. The last soccer match has to be seen to be believed, its hilarious and quite the spectacle.

Now there is an English dubbed that was released awhile ago, but I avoided that one at all costs as it was edited for American audiences. Try to find the subtitled Hong Kong version, its much better but does suffer from poor subtitling, as most HK DVDs do.

Stephen Chow is also the producer behind the upcoming Dragon Ball, so if you are wondering if they can pull it off check out Shaolin Soccer as alot of it will be very close to the effects used in Dragon Ball.

Shaolin Soccer gets a well deserved 4/5 stars.
