George Romero's latest entry (number 5 no less) into his Dead series is a valiant effort, but misses the charms of his earlier entry's Dawn and Day of the Dead.
The movie is told entirely in first person, and follows a group of film students as they try to get home and be with their loved ones as the dead start to walk.
With the movie told in first person, you lose alot of the great shots Romero is known for, sweeping wide shots showing how desolate the world has become, or incredibly tight two person shots to show how closed in, and isolated you can become.
The acting isn't exactly topnotch with an absolute no-name cast, but they all do their job well enough to be engaging.
As for the zombies.. classic. It's your slow lumbering type. The way it is meant to be.
Sadly the movie just is. There really is nothing of too much substance, let alone meat to really be too engaging. I enjoyed watching it cause I love all zombie movies, so the movie gets a decent 3/5 stars. If you like zombie movies, its by the grandfather of zombies so you gotta watch it. Otherwise, its not too imperative that it be on your Must Watch List.
